We all use archives in some way or another through our emails or files stored on the internet. Archiving formats like ZIP and RAR are popular amongst users. ZIP mostly used for email attachments and RAR for larger files stored on the internet. So why do we need to ZIP or RAR our attachments and files? Most common mailboxes have a max up/download size set by the provider.
This overview is from 2013, so there might be some changes. Still the max. file size is why we need Archivers like Betterzip. They are able to squeeze the file size to a smaller size, and combine all separate files into one if needed. The receiver opens the zipped files and has access to the full original files. Byte-savers is what they should be called. An easy process for every user. There is a number of archivers on the market, and they all work, but the main difference is usability, features and SPEED. A small file won’t make you notice any difference, but the larger files sort out the good from the bad.
Bitterzip 3 supports 30 formats
Direct Mode, Ad Hoc changes without saving first
Join & Split files
Apple disk images supported
ePub files supported
You may preview your archives without extracting the archive first.

Bitterzip allows users to create their own presets for archive handling.
Unwanted files can be filtered from the archive.
Bitterzip 3 allows you to test the archive for damages.
BETTERZIP 3 is without doubt the best Archiver for your Mac. It has all the features , but most of all, it has SPEED ! It is really fast in doing the job. A nice clean interface completes the package.
APPDELETE vs iTRASH vs CLEANMYMAC 3 which is best !
We all get to a point that makes us want a new program or utility to do the job. All software evolves in time, thus need replacement. This is where we need Uninstallers to perform the uninstall at best.
Its no good just deleting the app from your Application directory. Every software program uses several maps on your computer like ‘library’ and ‘preferences’ at least. Setting your desired preferences in any software package creates a ‘prefs / plist’ file. You need to get rid of all clutter, not because your Mac will run into trouble ( unlike windows ), but clutter will have some form of impact on your Mac’s speed at some point.
There are some Free and Paid Uninstallers on the market and they all seem to do the job well. However like in real life one picks up more garbage then another. To find out which of the tested Uninstallers is best, I simply ran four program uninstall sessions: Firefox , Little Snitch , Opera and Polymail.
Ghost Mode – Background mode. Drop something into the trash and iTrash pops up.
Expert Mode – Using the Levenshtein Distance search algorithm it can trace down more possible related files.
Simple drag&drop – Drag an application, widget, prefpane, .. onto the main window to reveal related files.
Lost Files – This enables you to find related files that are obsolete (Application is not present anymore).
Application Lister – Shows all installed applications, widgets, prefpanes .. on ALL available volumes.
File Protection – Protect default, custom and related applications files.
History Log – Keeps a log of all activities.
RUNNING iTRASH EXPERT MODE
UNINSTALL LITTLE SNITCH
This Uninstall session shows an extreme difference in ability to find related files and folders. iTRASH is far better then the competition.
There’s no need to show all other screen dumps, the results below show which of the Uninstallers is the TRUE WINNER !
The result is strong influenced by the uninstall of Little Snitch. If this is taken in account, iTrash still scores highest, but Appdelete is not far behind. Overall Appdelete and CleanMyMac score equal.
iTrash performed really well in every situation. Mind you iTrash also has an Expert Function which searches even deeper in your system files.
The interface of Appdelete and iTrash are similar, so is their find function. Again, iTrash has an Expert function. CleanMyMac Uninstall is integrated in a full system package, and performs well and features a great interface.
Best results and an overall win for iTrash. No questions asked. You may use the TryOut versions yourself and see which you prefer. For me there is just one winner ‘ iTRASH ‘.
